FAQ

Product information

1. Is jewellery from bastian inverun real jewellery?

The bastian inverun brand works exclusively with authentic natural materials. This means, for example, that we do not use synthetic stones of any kind. All jewellery from bastian inverun is made of 925/- sterling silver and 750/- yellow gold. Some of the pendants, for example, are supplemented with firmly integrated Tonda chains with a silver or gold-plated stainless steel core, which is stated in their product descriptions. Real gemstones, diamonds and cultured pearls are used to refine the pieces.

2. What is 925/- sterling silver and 750/- yellow gold?

Pure fine silver is too soft for jewellery making. That’s why other metals are included to achieve a certain hardness. The result is an alloy made of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% other metals (e.g. copper). So the content of fine silver is 925/1000. The name sterling silver refers to the British Pound sterling given that sterling silver was once used to make English silver pennies.

750/- yellow gold has a purity of 18 carat and consists of 75% fine gold and 25% other precious metals such as silver and copper depending on which colour tone is to be achieved. bastian inverun uses a very warm, brilliant gold tone for the gold collection.

Every piece of jewellery from bastian inverun is embossed with 925/- or 750/- to reflect the fine gold.

3. What does rhodium plating mean?

Rhodium plating refers to finishing a piece of jewellery with a thin layer of rhodium, a high-quality platinum metal. Rhodium plating protects silver jewellery against natural corrosion (typical tarnishing).

Please keep in mind that a rhodium layer (just as with gold plating) wears off over time (this particularly applies to rings). Rhodium plating gives your piece of jewellery a cooler colour tone. The rhodium plating is applied in a galvanic bath using electric current. As a result, rhodium plating is therefore a form of galvanic finishing, which is associated with a price premium for your rhodium-plated jewellery.

4. How do I care for and store my newly purchased jewellery and what should I keep in mind when wearing it?

Certain climatic conditions, environmental pollutants, the influence of chemicals, skin pH, cosmetics as well as regularly wearing the jewellery may cause marks to be left on the jewellery. Below, you will find some tips for keeping your jewellery’s attractive appearance for a long time to come.

Tips for wearing your jewellery

  • Generally, you should remove your jewellery before showering, using a sauna, swimming, going to bed, exercising or doing garden and/or house work.
  • Particularly chlorine and salt water can damage high-quality jewellery
  • Always protect your jewellery before applying make-up, lotions, perfume, hairspray and other care products

Storage

  • Make sure that the jewellery is not exposed to excessive sunshine, a high level of humidity and high temperatures
  • Do not store jewellery in the bathroom
  • To prevent and/or slow oxidation, it is recommended you store your jewellery where there is as little light and air as possible (e.g. in a soft bag, tissue paper or a plastic bag with a grip seal)

Cleaning

For both our gold and silver jewellery not fitted with gemstones or pearls, we recommend cleaning them in a lukewarm water bath with a soft toothbrush and a small amount of soap or mild detergent. Then wash the jewellery with cold water and dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. For jewellery fitted with pearls and soft gemstones, you should refrain from using soap and detergent.

Please do not use any abrasive or scouring cleaners to clean the jewellery (toothpaste, denture cleaner & co.). In the event of intense discolouration of silver jewellery, we recommend using professional silver cleaning agents.

5. Is jewellery from bastian inverun nickel-free?

In the past, nickel was mixed with the silver alloy for added stability. Today most jewellery manufacturers tend to refrain from using nickel as an additive. All jewellery from bastian inverun is 100% nickel-free, no nickel is added.

6. Why does silver jewellery tarnish?

Silver jewellery tarnishes because the material reacts with the air which contains hydrogen sulphide. Through the so-called oxidation process, silver sulphide is formed giving the jewellery a yellow-brown to grey-black tinge. This is a natural process. Certain environmental factors, unfavourable storage, but also the acidic pH of the skin can significantly accelerate this process.

Therefore, it is entirely normal for sterling silver to tarnish over time. How much and how quickly jewellery tarnishes (oxidises) can, however, be influenced (see care instructions). The tarnishing of silver neither a product defect nor a sign of low quality or poor workmanship, it is a typical characteristic of the material.

7. How can I measure my ring size?

By means of our printable stencil, you can easily find out your ring size. For this, please click here.

Please observe the following when printing out the stencil:

  1. Please observe the following when printing out the stencil:
  2. Print out the stencil at 100% zoom on A4 in landscape format.
  3. Check the print size by means of the specified scale.
  4. Fold the paper on the dashed line and cut along the semi-circles.
  5. You can now determine your perfect ring size. The round cut-out should closely embrace the finger.

Alternatively, you can also put a ring with the desired size onto the stencil. Please ensure that the circle on the inside of the ring is completely visible everywhere.

Here are a few general notes on measuring the ring size:

  • The wider the ring band, the tighter the ring feels. If you have selected a wider ring, then please order it in one ring size larger.
  • The ambient temperature affects your required ring size. Therefore, measure your finger at normal temperatures and preferably in the evening.

15. Do I have a warranty claim for the jewellery I purchased?

In order to claim warranty, you can return the defective piece of jewellery purchased from bastian Online. Trade GmbH & Co. KG to us with the proof of purchase within the two-year period.

Please always keep in mind that bastian jewellery, which was purchased directly from an authorised jewellery store, must be exclusively returned there along with the purchase receipt and that it cannot be sent directly to bastian.

Your jewellery will be repaired free of charge within this two-year time limit. If this is not possible or if a repair is unreasonable, the purchase price will be refunded to you or you will receive a free replacement delivery. If the product is no longer available, you will receive credit. You do not have a warranty claim in cases of improper handling, external repairs, careless treatment or if the jewellery was damaged, e.g. in the course of an accident. Please note the special care instructions for jewellery by bastian inverun.

For your own safety, we wish to advise you that the defective jewellery can only be returned to us if insured. Please contact bastian inverun customer service (shop@bastian-inverun.de) if you no longer have the return label so that we can send you a new return label.
